Self Care for Supervisors (Meets Requirements for Supervisor Credit)

GOAL: 

 

 

 

Gain an understanding of the importance of self-care in the helping professions and support practitioner wellness.

 

 

 

 

 

OBJECTIVES FOR PARTICIPANTS:

 

 

 

1.     Understand why professional self-care is important and widely recognized.

 

 

 

2.     Define self-care as including the skills and strategies to maintain their own personal, familial, emotional, and spiritual needs while attending to the needs and demands of their clients.

 

 

 

3.     Delineate the difference between burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatic stress.

 

 

 

4.     Examine ways in which helping professionals can and do manage stress when faced with a variety of agency limitations and client suffering or trauma.

 

 

 

5.     Explore possible tools and personal strategies including, but not limited to, seeking out professional support that may help them avoid burnout, vicarious trauma, or secondary trauma.

 

 

 

Tentative room assignment based on enrollment is Elson Hall 186. Registration and check in 8:15-8:30 a.m. All sessions begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and end at 11:45 a.m.
