Driverless Vehicles and the Legislation
Michigan will become the leading state to test vehicles without drivers according to the state Senate. Michigan auto makers will be allowed to produce and sell cars that are self-operating as an attempt to test the way they operate and prepare for these driverless vehicles on the state’s highways.
Originally, the law stated that a human driver must be in the vehicle to allow them to take over should the driverless mechanism fail. However, the new law is now permitting the vehicles computerized system to have full function as the driver of the vehicle.
As one of only six other states, as well as Washington D.C., Michigan has passed laws regarding the examination of these autonomous vehicles and how they handle on the highway alone.
