Attend this day-long workshop to learn the latest on biosolids management including updates from key experts such as Washington State University scientists, DEQ staff, legal experts, consultants, and pro-active Oregon municipalities at the forefront of ensuring proper biosolids management practices.
Biosolids are a valuable beneficial bi-product of the wastewater treatment process, so it’s not surprising that about 95% of the biosolids generated in Oregon are beneficially used as a nutrient rich soil amendment. Now, more than ever, wastewater management agencies, farmers, and customers are recognizing the many benefits of biosolids land application, including soil building, drainage improvement, erosion control, water conservation, reduced need for commercial fertilizers, improved crop quality, and improved soil tilth for landscapes and gardens.
Beneficial use is a cost-effective and sustainable option for managing biosolids. For biosolids managers to successfully continue land application in Oregon, environmentally-sound practices must be followed, and biosolids managers need to continue to maintain trust of farmers, regulators, customers, and the general public.
This workshop will focus on the proper calculation of land application rates, regulatory updates from DEQ, and best practices for biosolids management. The workshop will also provide insights on successful Class A biosolids management programs, how Pretreatment Programs can help improve biosolids quality, and how to talk to the public and land owners.
