Soil Health Partnership demo farmer Steve Berger will host a soil health meeting at the Jim and Evelyn Eash Banquet Hall on the Washington County Fair grounds. NRCS Regional Soil Health Specialist, Doug Peterson, will dicuss soil health. Local SHP demo farmers will share their insights on soil health building practices and what it means for farm management. Dinner will be provided, RSVP requested.

Elyssa McFarland

The Soil Health Partnership brings together diverse partner organizations including commodity groups, federal agencies, universities and environmental groups to work toward the common goal of improving soil health. Over a period of at least 10 years, the SHP will identify, test and measure farm management practices that improve soil health while benefiting farmers and the environment. Elyssa McFarland is the Soil Health Partnership Field Manager for Iowa. Raised on a grain and livestock farm east of Columbus Junction, Iowa, she attended Iowa State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Agronomy and spent summers as an intern with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Elyssa recently completed a dual Master's degree in Agronomy and Soil Science from the University of Wisconsin- Madison.
