Class Description

This class is designed for those with little or no art experience! We will learn color mixing, composition, painting wet-in-wet, and several useful techniques. Together, we will paint a series of paintings, from simple to complex. Students may draw their own sketches or use patterns.

 

Class One: Introduction to transparent watercolors, mixing colors.

Class Two:  Painting rocks

·       Using variety and texture to lead the eye. 

·       Granulation, shadows, picking up excess color.

Class Three:  Old Barn Landscape

Class Four: Trees, Foliage, Grass, wild flowers

·       Using wet-in-wet, dry brush, charged brush and underpainting.

·       Palette knife work and other methods of achieving texture.

Class Five:  Zinnias

·       Learning to paint from photographs; vignettes; painting complex subjects by hinting at the detail.

Class Six: Finishing projects

·       Painting greeting cards; experimenting with new materials; matting and framing.

 

Materials

Most materials will be provided. All materials provided for the first class. Students will receive quality paper, a small palette with basic colors, a small drawing board, and they may borrow brushes until they find some of their own.
