J Lyn Thomas is a multifaceted artist with talents in dance, choreography, and teaching. In high school, she won a scholarship to train at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School in Denver, Colorado and later went on to obtain her BA in Dance at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

After graduation, J Lyn moved to New York City and signed with MSA Talent Agency. Since signing, J Lyn has danced on America’s Got Talent, Black Girls Rock, BET’s Wild Out Wednesday, and in a season of Comcast’s Get Up and Dance. She has back-up danced for many artists like LL Cool J, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Cee Lo Green, Kevin Lyttle and Lil Jon. Her TV, film and commercial work includes a print campaign for Coors Light Beer, dancing in Step Up 3D, and dancing in commercials for fitness guru Shaun T.’s Hip Hop Abs, Lucille Roberts Gym, G-Star Watch, and Malibu Rum. She has performed in an off-Broadway tribute to Lena Horne and toured with world-renowned hip hop dance company, DECA Dance Theatre. In addition to working with many of the industry’s top choreographers like Beyonce’s choreographers Sheryl Murakami, Luam, and Frank Gatson, she has choreographed for Lil Jon, Kevin Lyttle and FARRAD.

Outside of her performance career, J Lyn has over 16 years of experience in teaching at dance studios, dance conventions, non-profit organizations, New York City public schools, and dance institutions throughout the US and abroad. She currently is faculty at Broadway Dance Center’s Children and Teen Program, Director of Dance at Brooklyn Community Arts and Media High School, and teaches workshops at dance studios and non-profit programs throughout NYC.

Dance classes will focus on Contemporary Afrobeats. These classes will have a focus and concentration in West African dance and music (particularly Ghana and Nigeria); however, as we have seen Afrobeats as a a genre radiates throughout Africa. There will be weekly dance classes, and the program will include master classes and occasional guest professional dancers and choreographers. Classes will involve learning technical skills and fundamental movement. The class focus will be on learning Afrobeats dance styles as we connect ourselves to the spirit of Africa, and the joy that comes from it. We will also develop and build core strength, stamina, rhythmic sensibility, and most importantly build community. Instagram: @AfrobeatsDanceBoston, Facebook: Afrobeats Dance Boston
