Academic orientation visit is a unique program at Discovery Academy of Science. Our goal is to help our parents and students to benefit our school and resources the most. This is an extra service provided only at Discovery Academy of Science, where our academic team travel an extra mile for our parents and students. Last year more than 20 homes visited by our academic team. Each visit approximately took 30 minutes in a friendly ambiance. During the visit, our academic team answers your questions and address concerns furthermore can assist you on effective uses of AR, MyOn, DASconnect and other online resources. Once you place a request here, our academic team will contact you to schedule a visit.

Monday - Chess Club By Mr. Kadic Partial Approval - Free

Students will learn how to play chess and develop different types of strategies played during the game. Students will play versus other students.

Monday-Dodge Ball with Ms. Castelow Partial Approval - Free

Students will participate in the official game of dodgeball. The will be able to compete against different teams in a single game match up along with tournament style play. The will work as a team to compete against each other. Not only will students have fun competing but he/she will learn sportsmanship qualities that they will utilize in all aspects of their life.

Monday - Concert Band (woodwind) with Mr. Currier Partial Approval - Free

Students can learn any woodwind (flute, clarinet, saxophone), in group setting. Students will be required to rent an instrument and purchase one copy of the method book.

Tuesday-Battle of the Books with Ms. Adams Partial Approval - Free

America's Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for students in grades 3-12. The purpose is simply to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with peers. The students gain knowledge and enjoyment from reading good books, sharing them with friends, parents and teachers, plus a fun day of playing in the "Battle."

Tuesday-Rube Goldberg Machine Club with Ms. Langlotz Partial Approval - Free

The idea is to complete a simple task from a change reaction of many smaller tasks using everyday items.

Tuesday-Student Council with Mrs. Whitehead Partial Approval - Free

Student council is a group of students that participate in designated areas of school government. Any student is welcome to attend the council meetings. The purpose of the Student Council is to be a liaison to the administration for questions and concerns from the student body, be role models for other students (peers or younger), keep the sense of school optimism up (during tests weeks, holidays, etc.), and create a healthy environment for students to feel they have a hand in the school.

Students can learn any brasswind (trumpet or trombone), or percussion instrument in group setting. Students will be required to rent an instrument and purchase one copy of the method book.

Wednesday - Basketball Club by Mr. Kadic Partial Approval - Free

Students will develop different muscles and motor skills in playing basketball. We will train and each student is required to bring his/her own basketball dress. We need to have students bring one white T-shirt and one red T-shirt during the basketball club as we will have game each day after warm up. Students are expected to sign up A.S.A.P. as this club will fill up quickly. In order for students to be accepted into the club, students must have their parents sign the liability form before being able to attend the club.

Wednesday FLL with Mr. Gingerich Partial Approval - Free

Students have the opportunity to learn and apply their knowledge of prehistoric eras and periods of early reptiles and dinosaurs. They will acquire information through a variety of fun interactive activities in a creative environment.

Thursday- Up cycled Artists Club with Ms. Adams Partial Approval - Free

Students will repurpose/manipulate/transform old discarded books using multiple mediums to create a personally meaningful visual display. The purpose of this club is to unlock, develop and inspire the hidden talents that each students has using the 5 senses; as well as be earth friendly and recycle literature.

Thursday - Crazy 8 Math Club with Mrs. Whitehead Partial Approval - Free

Crazy 8s is an after-school math club that helps students enjoy the math behind their favorite activities. Some examples of our activities are glow-in-the-dark structures, cracking secret spy codes, and playing games like Toilet Paper Olympics all using math in the process!

Thursday - LEGO ($50 initial fee) with Ms. Chapin Partial Approval - Free

Solve problems, imagine constructions, and physically build Lego creations! Use your powers of creativity and your planning and spatial skills! Everyone can enjoy building with Legos! There is a one-time fee associated with this program to purchase supplies.

Dear Parents,

 

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! Discovery Academy of Science offers multiple clubs on each day except Friday. Please be mindful to that all club placements is on a first come first serve basis and up 20 students per club. If a club is full before you get to register, you can still sign in the waiting list. If there is an opening for that club, placements will be made from the first waiting student on the waiting list. Parents of those will be notified via email.

 

 

After completing your registration, you will receive a confirmation e mail. Please retain the confirmation email until receiving your student’s club schedule from Mr. Duman within the first week of the school. Clubs will start on Monday, Aug 22nd, 2016.
